Food education
for preschoolers
Food Sense provides sensory-based learning experiences for preschoolers to explore the joys of fresh foods using a pressure-free, play-filled approach to food education.
We exist to serve preschoolers by providing learning experiences that develop a young child's sense of curiosity, confidence and joy when it comes to food.
Because we best serve our preschoolers as a team, we are also committed to serving educators and parents in co-creating and sustaining a pressure-free and joyful food environment at both school and home.
We know that there are many reasons why preschoolers do not always get enough fresh foods daily in their diet. Some children are still learning to eat a variety of foods, others may experience anxiety at mealtimes and many are affected by the growing number of families facing food insecurity.
Food Sense is committed providing all children with the opportunity to explore and try a variety foods, not only for their nutritional value but also to help young children learn to experience the joy that can come from different foods and food traditions.
Food Sense takes a different approach to food education. We provide learning experiences that go beyond healthy versus unhealthy. Instead, we focus on developing a child's ability to intuitively and mindfully eat, helping the child to think about how different foods make them feel.
Through a sensory-based approach, we ask students how different foods look, feel, smell, sound and taste - never pressuring, never shaming, never punishing. While simple, this approach can change how a child experiences food.
